Top five beaches in Cabo de Gata

If there is something that stands out from the Natrural Park of Cabo de Gata, it is its paradisiacal coast of more than 50 km. In it we find the last virgin beaches of the Spanish Mediterranean coast. We have dared to show you the ones you must visit during your stay in Almeria, for its easy access and well-deserved fame.

Mónsul Beach

The beauty of this beach made Steven Spielberg choose it to film one of the famous Indiana Jones scenes. Steven was convinced that it was the most beautiful beach in Spain. Its charm has turned it into a film set for many films such as "The Endless Story", "Lawrence of Arabia" or "The man who lost its shadow", surely you have seen it in innumerable advertising spots. Beach of very fine and dark sand, with crystal clear waters and clean in days without wind shows us its volcanic origin with petrified lava that capriciously enters as if they were waves in the Mediterranean Sea that caresses its sand. Remember that it is a virgin beach and that the nearest town, called San José is 4 kilometers away.

Playa de Monsul

Los Genoveses Beach

This beach that happens to be one of the most emblematic of the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata is very close to the beach of Mónsul. It has a beautiful, fine and golden yellow sand, ideal for walks. It is usual to leave in popularity surveys as one of the best beaches in Spain. In 2.015 it was considered the best beach in Andalusia in a survey carried out by the antenna web 3. Its length is 1,180 meters. The beach of Los Genoveses is not only known for its spectacular beauty, history also makes it a reference point in the chronicle of Almeria. In 1147 Almeria was one of the richest cities in Europe, thanks to the industry of silk and marble from the quarries of the town of Macael, which caused the greedy Genoveses to lead an army supporting Alfonso VII in order to take the Muslim city of Almeria. The Genovese army anchored for months on this beach before taking the city. Since then the flag of the city is similar to that of Genoa, with the red Genovese Cross as the main element. It is about 3 kilometers from the town of San José. You can use the same trip to visit the beach of Mónsul and the Genoese.

Playa de Los Genoveses

San Pedro Cove

To speak of San Pedro's Cove is to speak of a lost paradise, of a virgin beach that will surprise you by the turquoise blue of its waters. You can only get there by foot or by boat from the village of Las Negras, it will cost you € 12. In the cove the natural water source that allows the existence of vegetation continues to function. If you arrive walking the first thing you will find are the ruins of the Castle of San Pedro de Las Negras, built at the end of the XVI century on an old Muslim tower to defend the Berber and Turkish pirates the source of natural water that they used to provide themselves with this scarce well, for these arid places. The pirates disembarked in this natural port to steal and capture slaves.

San Pedro Cove

Cala Enmedio

A few kilometers from the town of Aguamarga, you can only arrive by boat or foot, leaving the car in La Cala del Plomo and taking a path that will take you to it. Crystal clear waters and a turquoise blue of impressive beauty, which together with its fine sand make it an ideal beach for bathing. Remember to bring everything you need, we remind you that we are talking about virgin beaches, not urban, so there you will only find people who have decided to visit it and in winter you can find yourself alone. The cove is sheltered by shapes drawn capriciously by the lava of the volcanic eruptions that give it a very characteristic aspect that is its great differential note.

Los Muertos Beach

Considered by many as one of the best beaches in Spain, the turquoise blue of its crystal clear waters stands out. Located between the town of Carboneras and the neighborhood of Aguamarga, you must leave the car in the parking lot that is on the road that connects both population centers and down a path to the beach. We recommend that you wear comfortable clothes and sneakers and that your luggage does not weigh too much, that you do not forget the water. This beach of the dead owes its name to the sailors who drowned in those seas were dragged by currents to it. Choose a day without wind or with west wind to visit it. The days with strong east wind are very dangerous to swim in its waters.
